Their announcement:
On May 7, 1969, QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 made her triumphant maiden arrival at New York and the World Ship Society’s Port of New York Branch was there.
On October 16, 2008, QE2 departs for the last time.
We’ll be there again.
Join us as we say “farewell” to perhaps the greatest ocean liner of all time.
QUEEN MARY 2 will depart from the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal the same evening and the two liners will sail in tandem for Southampton, England.
Sailing aboard one of NY Waterway’s comfortable boats, we’ll depart from both Port Imperial at Weehawken, NJ and the foot of West 39th Street, Manhattan .
We’ll hover off the Manhattan Passenger Ship Terminal as QE2 departs and then accompany her as she joins QM2 near the Statue of Liberty. We’ll board at Port Imperial at 3:45pm, sail at 4:00pm, and then cross to Manhattan with boarding there at 4:15pm. We’ll return to both locations between 7:00 and 8:00pm.
We’ll be sharing the boat with our good friends of The Steamship Historical Society of America’s Long Island Chapter.
Capacity is limited to 250 passengers.
You’re welcome to bring a meal with you and a snack bar on the boat sells items such as soft drinks, beer, and light snacks.
Fares: $50 per member; $60 per nonmember.
We sail rain or shine.
Reservations: We expect a sellout, so reserve early.
Please send the form below with your check payable to WORLD SHIP SOCIETY to: Brad Hatry, 42 Fourth Place, Brooklyn, NY 11231.
